Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration
The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario requires periodic safety inspections as per the Highway Traffic Act. Therefore, if you operate a commercial vehicle in Ontario, you must have a valid CVOR certificate as proof of your safety inspection.
Your vehicle/trailer will be inspected following strict guidelines that comply with applicable legislation. Specifically, your suspension, hydraulic power train suspension, hydraulic brake system, brakes, steering, instruments and auxiliary equipment, lamps, electrical system, body, tires and wheels, couplers and hitches will all be inspected.
We can assist with any necessary repairs and maintenance to help certify your vehicle/trailer.

Who needs a CVOR?
If your vehicle is being used for commercial purposes OR transporting items (commercial cargo, tools, equipment etc.) used for commercial purposes and meets the following conditions below, a yellow sticker is required:
- If the total gross weight, registered gross weight (RGW) or manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating (MGVWR) of the vehicle exceeds 4,500 kg or 9,920 lbs.
or
- the combined weight of the vehicle and towed trailer or converter dolly exceeds 4,500 kg or 9,920 lbs.
Your CVOR certificate is valid for 12 months and must be renewed prior to the expiry date to avoid potential fines.
Who is exempt from a CVOR?
If you have a pickup truck (as defined in the Highway Traffic Act) or pickup truck and trailer combination, and is solely using the vehicle for personal purposes without compensation and will not be carrying commercial cargo, tools or equipment of a type normally used for commercial purposes, then you will be exempted from the annual inspection.
Safety Standards Certificate
Your vehicle will undergo a comprehensive safety inspection as per government-regulated inspection criteria by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.
Multiple vehicle systems are checked and measurements are taken. Any items of concern that require repair in order to meet inspection requirements, will be brought to your attention. As a full service garage we can assist you with any necessary repairs.

Who needs an SSC?
You need a safety standard inspection and certificate if you are:
- registering a rebuilt vehicle
- transferring a used vehicle to a new owner (unless the new owner is your spouse)
- registering a vehicle in Ontario that was bought in or came from another province, territory or country
- changing the status of a vehicle from unfit to fit
Your Safety Standards Certificate is valid for 36 calendar days after the inspection. *If the certificate expires before you register the vehicle, you will have to pay for a new inspection and certificate.
A safety standards certificate confirms that your vehicle met the minimum safety standards on the date the certificate was issued.
It is not a warranty or guarantee of the vehicle's condition.
You can buy and register a vehicle without a safety standards certificate, but cannot put plates on a vehicle without one.
Who is exempt from an SSC?
You do not need a safety standards inspection and certificate if you are:
- registering a used motorized snow vehicle, off-road vehicle, motor-assisted bicycle (e.g. moped), or trailer
- transferring the vehicle to your spouse
